Animal Friends have won many awards for their Pet Insurance service, some of which you can see below.

Animal Friends Levels of Cover

To provide a policy suitable for each kind of breed and budget, Animal Friends offer 4 different levels of cover. The cover options on offer are their Accident Only, Time Limited, Max Benefit and Lifetime Cover. Let’s look at each of these in more detail.

Please note that with all of Animal Friends Pet Insurance policies, pre-existing conditions WILL NOT be covered.

Animal Friends Accident Only Cover

The Animal Friends Accident Only Cover* is their most basic level of cover to suit those on a budget.

To keep the cost of the premium down, this cover does exactly what it states in providing cover for accidents only. There is no cover included for illnesses or diseases.

There are policy limits in place of £2500 per year per accident with a lifetime limit of £15,000 per accident.

Animal Friends Time Limited Cover

The next level of cover offered by Animal Friends is their Time Limited Cover.

This cover improves upon Accident Only cover by offering cover for illnesses and diseases too.

Animal Friends’ Time Limited Cover* provides cover for accidents, illnesses and conditions either for 365 days, or until the condition limits have been reached. These limits will be set at between £1000 and £4000 depending on what level you choose when you take out a policy.

It’s worth noting that there is a combined annual limit with this kind of cover. Once you reach this annual limit you will no longer be covered until the policy renews. Once you renew, the cover will continue as it did previously for eligible conditions, until any combined annual limits are reached again.

Animal Friends Max Benefit Cover

Animal Friends Max Benefit cover* also offers cover for illnesses and other conditions as well as cover for accidents.

The policy limits are set at between £1000 and £4000 of cover per condition depending on what you opt for when setting up the policy.

With Max Benefit cover you will be covered up to the policy limits for as long as your policy is active. Once your limits have been reached for a specific condition, you will not then be able to claim for that condition in the future.

Animal Friends Lifetime Cover

Finally we come to Animal Friends’ most comprehensive cover option, this being their Lifetime Cover*.

As you would expect, Animal Friends’ Lifetime Cover protects against accidents, illnesses and other conditions continuously for as long as the policy is active.

While Lifetime cover is being offered here, it’s worth knowing that there is an annual limit payable for each condition. This limit ranges from £1000-£6000 depending on what you select when you take out the policy. This annual limit refreshes each year when you renew your policy.

Animal Friends Horse and Rider Insurance

As well as offering insurance for cats and dogs, Animal Friends also offer insurance for horses and riders.

Animal Friends insure horses from 30 days old. They also have dedicated policies available for older horses age 20+ years. Finally, they offer insurance for riders who are aged 5 years and over.

Animal Friends Standard Horse Insurance

Animals Friends’ Standard Horse Cover* is available for horses aged between 30 days and 20 years old.

With their Standard Horse Insurance Policy, Animal Friends will cover the cost of veterinary fees as well as other listed fees for up to 365 days from the time the condition was first noticed or when an accident occurs.

To ensure that there are cover options available for all budgets, Animal Friends let you choose the annual limits you want on your policy. These limits can be between £2000 and £6000 per condition. These limits will be available separately for each condition.

As a horse owner’s needs can be quite specific when choosing Horse Insurance, Animal Friends also have a range of bolt-on benefits available for you to add to your policy if you feel it is needed. This helps keep the cost of the policy down, as you will only pay for the cover you need. Possible bolt-ons include:

  • Permanent Loss of Use
  • Death of Horse
  • Loss by Theft or Straying
  • Third Party Liability
  • Personal Accident and Dental
  • Saddlery and Tack
  • Horse Trailer

Animal Friends Mature Horse Insurance

Animals Friends’ Mature Horse cover* is available for horses aged 20 years and over. This cover differs from their Standard Horse Cover in a variety of ways.

Firstly, Mature Horse Insurance from Animal Friends only provides cover for accidental injuries. There is no cover for illnesses or other conditions.

The second difference is that the 365 day benefit limit is capped at £2000 per condition with their Mature Horse cover.

Finally, there is also a £125 excess to pay with the Mature Horse version of their cover.

There are a few similarities with their Standard Horse Cover, though, in that:

  • The Benefit limit is applied separately per condition
  • Covered 365 days from the date of the injury or until benefit limit has been reached
  • There are a range of bolt-ons available

Animal Friends Horse Rider Insurance

Animal Friends don’t just offer insurance for horses, they also have insurance policies for horse riders too!

Horse Rider insurance policies from Animal Friends will cover you for accidents sustained while rising a horse. This is true even if you don’t own the horse yourself.

Animal Friends’ Horse Rider cover* is split into 3 categories. These are a Standard Rider Policy (which includes some Emergency Vet Fee cover for the horse you are riding), a Rider Only policy which only covers you the rider, and a Young Rider policy for under 18s.

Their Horse Rider policies are available for riders who are 5 years and up and cover areas such as:

  • Personal Accident
  • Third Party Liability
  • Custodial Liability
  • Vet Fees

Hi a friend has just told me her insurance from you has increased by 500% because her dog has cancer – how do you justify this??? I can only think that you want to get rid of her pet as this is ludicrous – as insurers you HAVE To take the rough with the smooth and I cannot believe that you call yourselves Animal Friends – I think you need to be more honest and rename yourselves – animal friends as long as your dog doesn’t need treatment – I find this deplorable !
