Basics for Earning Money with Your First Blog

Whether you simply feel as though you’ve got something to say, or you have heard that there’s money to be made by creating a blog, setting up your own site can be a lucrative proposition. Of course, with over 152,000,000 blogs on the internet and thousands being set up every day, creating a blog that is going to generate you money isn’t just something that anybody can do. It requires dedication and commitment and it is good to learn as much as you can about what you’re doing from the very beginning, so without further ado, here are some of the main areas you need to focus on if you want to earn from your first blog.

Choosing a Topic You Can Monetise

The first thing you need to think about is your content. If you’re creating a blog, the reason is (other than for money) surely that you care about a particular issue and you want to write about it, or at least create a space where like-minded people can come together and write to an audience that is interested and engaged. Therefore, choosing a topic for your blog that you know a lot about is going to be vital for your continued success. You’re going to be writing a lot, and, with 18.6 posts a second being added to the global blogosphere, you’ll need to work hard to stay above the crowd.

Of course, if you are passionate about more than one subject then it might make sense to pick the subject that will offer the highest returns when it comes to advertising. If you’re interested in both finance and gardening for example and you would feel more than happy to write about both topics, then given that many of the top paying Google Adsense keywords are in the finance niche, it may more profitable to start a blog in that niche.

Finding the Best Deals for Your Domain and Hosting

Next, if you want to maximize your blog’s profits and have a well performing blog then you’re going to need to find the best domain, hosting and blogging platform for your needs. Finding these things will be very much a process that is specific to your requirements, but many places offer all of these services under one roof, so if you’re looking to keep things simple, have a look here as a starting point.

Keeping Track of Your Performance

Finally, knowing how your blog is doing is essential to understanding how you can generate more money from it. For this, you’ll need various reporting tools ranging from basic ones like a page clicks counter, to more advanced tools like the ones available through services like Google Analytics. Once you have these reporting tools under your belt, you’ll be able to see what’s working for you and what isn’t and therefore improve in the specific places you need to.

Ultimately then, if you want to make money from your first blog it is essential that you spend time researching and increasing your knowledge to give you an idea of how best to approach it. There are some things which you will obviously have to learn along the way but hopefully you’re now more aware of what you need to do.

  4. Knowing if you can monetize a site is huge. I’ve have some great ideas for blogs, but when I started to think of how I could potentially monetize it, I realized that there are few options out there. Just because you find a niche doesn’t mean you will have a place to make money. Some niches just aren’t that good at turning a profit.
