Don’t Forget, Free Sky Sports This Weekend!

I can’t believe it has been a full 12 months since I wrote a light-hearted post about creating the perfect premier league kick off weekend for the 2013-14 season. Now we’re on the cusp of the 2014-15 season and I’m just as excited as I was last year about opening day. Last year I wrote about a service called Now TV which allows you to pay-as-you-go to watch sky sports for 24 hours at a time. I decided to give it a go and was pretty pleased that I was able to watch a lot of the action on opening day, pleased until I spoke to my brother in law on the phone that is!

In this phone call he told me that Virgin Media – my service provider – had actually made Sky Sports available to watch for free on opening day and that he too had watched the games at home. I honestly had no idea that this was happening and I was a little gutted that I’d forked out to watch them on Now TV when I could have just watched them for free on Virgin.

With this in mind I thought I’d play the role of messenger today and let everyone know that Sky Sports are doing exactly the same thing this Saturday August 16th from 6am by making all of the Sky Sports Channels free to air for 24 hours to all Sky*, Virgin* and TalkTalk* television customers, meaning you can enjoy the opening day games at home for free without wasting any of your hard earned cash on drinks at the pub, unless you want to of course.

Virgin Media Season Ticket

If like me you are a Virgin Media Customer then you may also be interested in the Sky Sports season ticket offer that they have available until the 1st of September. This offer allows you to save over 40% on the usual cost of sky sports by paying a one off upfront fee of £150 to gain access to all of the Sky Sports Channels (not HD) for the duration of the football season. I’m not sure if Sky or TalkTalk have any similar deals on offer for their customers this year but I thought the Virgin one was worth mentioning for those who may be interested.

I’ve been trying to convince Mrs B. of the merits of this offer but so far she’s just not buying it. 🙂 I’ll keep plugging away though and try and get her on board with the idea. With all the games I already watch on BT Sport and Terrestrial TV though, I think I may have used up all my tokens in the sports viewing department! I know she does read a few of my posts so I may as well take this opportunity to say what a tremendous and thoughtful gift this season ticket would be. 😉

Have a Great Weekend

Anyway, however you choose to view the games I hope everyone has a great weekend and your team does you proud. No season is won or lost on the first day but it’s always nice to start as you mean to go on and get off to a winning start.
