Is Amazon the New Best Place to Buy Whisky Online?
I’ve been a whisky lover for a long time now and although I’m no expert, I’d say that my collection is growing and my tastes are widening. While I’ve always thought that I’d find the best whisky deals at a supermarket or specialist online store, I recently noticed that Amazon have been offering some great deals on some of my favourite whiskies and with free delivery on items over £20 and free next day delivery when you have a prime membership, Amazon might well be my go to one stop whisky shop from now on!
My first Amazon whisky bargain was a bottle of Glenfarclas 15 Year Old single malt for just £33.49, but with so many whiskies out there, let’s examine the evidence further.
Amazon’s Whisky Deals
To give you an idea of some of the whisky bargains which are currently available on Amazon, I’m going to mention a few of my favourite drinking whiskies with Amazon’s current prices, just so that you can see how they compare to the prices you might normally pay in a supermarket or from another online store. Please keep in mind that these prices are subject to change and you may need to browse the site to find the best current deals.
Ardbeg 10 Year Old
Widely considered as one of the best ‘affordable’ whiskies on the market, if you were to buy a bottle of Ardbeg 10 year old malt whisky in a supermarket you could expect to pay around £45 a bottle, at least that was the price when I checked it at Sainsbury’s recently. I must admit that I have picked up a bottle on offer for just £36 in the past and I went skipping home thinking I’d gotten the deal of a lifetime. I looked online at one of the most popular online whisky stores today and found this whisky priced at £41.45 per bottle, with a delivery charge of £4.95 if you don’t spend over £100 (or free delivery if you do). On Amazon, however, you can pick up a bottle of this stunning whisky for just £37.10 with free delivery! I’d happily pay this price on a regular basis.
Laphroaig 10 Year Old and Highland Park
So, now we come to a couple of my other favourite single malts which are slightly cheaper than Ardbeg, especially when you buy on Amazon, it seems. When it comes to the Laphroaig 10 year old single malt, I’d say it’s quite rare to find this wonderful smoky and peaty dram for less than £30 in a supermarket store. It does come on offer from time to time, especially around this time of year, but in general you’d be doing well to find it at £30 or less. On Amazon, however, it is currently priced at just £26 with free UK delivery.
A Possible Budget Single Malt?
While I have to say I’ve not tried it yet, I did notice a budget single malt on Amazon that might be worth a punt in the Glen Grant The Majors Reserve for just £17 a bottle, which has good customer reviews. If you have a prime membership then you’ll be able to get free delivery with this whisky but if not then you may need to spend a few more pounds to qualify for free delivery, as Amazon require that you spend over £20 for this. At £17 a bottle, though, why not just buy two?
As I said at the start of this post, I’m no single malt expert but I do like drinking the stuff and I definitely like a bargain! I’ll certainly be buying a lot more whisky on Amazon from now on and after seeing the prices available, I have a sneaky suspicion that you will be too!
