Learn to Invest on World Book Day!

While World Book Day might normally be associated with school kids getting dressed up as book characters and going to book fairs, it’s worth remembering that books are one of the most important investing tools available too.

Sure, there are many online investing courses available these days and there is a wealth of content available online too. But books still hold many investing gems shared by some of the world’s best investors! In fact, you could argue that some of these tips can still ONLY be found in books.

Which Books Should You Buy?

So, what should you look out for when buying an investment book or guide? Here are a few tips.

Success Breeds Success!

Obviously, you will want to look out for books written by those who have a proven track record of investing success. After all, we don’t want it to be a case of the blind leading the blind!

So, books from or about investors like Warren Buffett, Benjamin Graham or others might be a good place to start. Some popular ones might be the likes of ‘The Intelligent Investor’ by Benjamin Graham*. Or you might enjoy ‘The Big Short’ from Michael Lewis*.

Life Stories

I’ve also found that there is much knowledge to be gained simply from reading the life stories of some of the world’s top investors – both past and present – to see what it was in their personalities and ideas that helped them to gain success.

Life stories of successful entrepreneurs can also be helpful. These can provide insight into the mindset of achieving success and taking measured risks.

I particularly enjoyed listening to The Warren Buffett Way audiobook on Audible*!

Investment Principles

Of course, we still need to know the basics. Spending a little time learning about the boring stuff – well some might think of it that way – really is a must. Trading patterns, principles of investing and learning about the history of markets can help you to build a great foundation to invest from.

Never Stop Learning!

As we can see, then, world book day isn’t just fun for the kids. Far from it!

So, why not spend a little time today reading or searching out some of the best investment books around. Who knows, it might just inspire you to invest for the very first time or to take another look at your portfolio and re-balance it a little.

None of us are ever past the point where there is something new to learn!
