Switchd Review: Find the Best Energy Deals

LINKS MARKED * ARE AFFILIATE LINKS.

Are you fed up paying too much on your energy bills? Switchd is a new type of energy comparison service that promises to let you take a smarter approach to saving money.

At the start of 2020, the National Audit Office said that British households had paid £800 million more than they should have done on their energy bills. Therefore, it seems clear that most of us should be looking for ways to lower our bills. This is where Switchd* comes in.

Their approach is to get you to switch to the best deal and then keep monitoring the cost, so that you can switch again whenever it suits you to do so.

Who Are Switchd?

This is a UK-based team that promises to automatically check thousands of deals to get the best price on your energy. They say that they aren’t really a comparison site, as they check the full market rather than just a few deals. Also, they automatically switch your energy supplier, rather than just give you details of the best offers.

According to LinkedIn – where 9 team members are listed – they are based in London and recently moved to a new office. Llewellyn Kinch and Thomas Rogers are listed as being the co-founders. Other team members (and the company dog) are listed on the about page* of the official site.

This is a new service that has started to attract a lot of attention in 2020. Let’s take a look and see what exactly they offer and how they work.

What Do They Offer?

The Switchd service is pretty simple. First of all, you sign up and tell them a little bit about your energy use and preferences.  They will then check out approximately 26,000 tariffs and advise you which one you would be best switching to.

They will then check the market and switch you to new tariffs as it suits you. In general, they expect to switch any customer over to new suppliers every 6 to 9 months or so.

Thanks to this process, they claim to help people save an average of over £400 each year, which is a massive saving for anyone.

What Does It Cost?

There are few different plans that you can sign up for.

  • The free plan can save you up to £300 annually. It gives you the basic service of automatic supplier switching and you can get in touch by email or live chat.
  • The Lite plan can help you to rack up £400 or more in savings. The addition to the free package in this case is that you get to compare all available suppliers. It costs £1.99 each month.
  • For £3.49 monthly, you can sign up with Switchd* for the Standard level plan. Savings are similar to in the Lite plan, but the key difference is that you can phone the Switchd team if you want to.
  • The top plan is called Premium and it costs a monthly fee of £4.99. It covers everything in the Standard package but adds in dedicated customer support and the option of getting in touch through Whatsapp.

The free service is certainly worth trying, as you will be saving money without paying a thing. However, the chance to save even more means that it is probably worth paying for one of the higher level plans, as the cost will be covered by the extra saving.

What Do Other People Say About It?

The Switchd service is quite new, so there aren’t all that many reviews of it to date, and even less feedback from customers who have used it.

The reviews so far have been positive, reflecting the fact that this is a worthwhile service that should see people save a decent amount of cash for very little effort. The whole thing makes sense and has been well presented too.

From reading the current customer feedback, the majority of users are happy that the signup process is very easy.

Some of them also say that they have noticed that they are starting to save money each month. It looks like the kind of service that you will probably appreciate more over a period of time, as the savings build up.

The most interesting thing will be seeing how they automatically switch to new suppliers over time, as this is potentially the most rewarding part of it all.

The main negative feedback is that you need to pay for a plan that lets you get in touch by phone. However, this is completely optional and the free plan should still give you a reasonable saving each year.

How Do You Get Started?

The set up process on Switchd* shouldn’t take you any more than 5 minutes to complete. As we have seen, the first step is to enter some of your basic details.

As part of this, you can set the parameters for future switches. For example, you can say that you only want to move to a new supplier when the saving to be made is above a certain minimum amount.

Choose the plan you want at this stage. You might want to start off with the free option, with the idea of upgrading later if needed.

What if you want to help the planet? Well, there are green plans and renewable electricity options that you can choose from too.

Another point worth remembering is that you can sign up with more than one property. Add on all of the houses you want to save money on, and they will appear in your Switchd dashboard.

On the negative side, they point out that some smart meters will lose their functionality following a switch to a new supplier. However, they confirm that you can add the meter readings to the dashboard and will get reminders to keep you on track at all times.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that far too many of us pay more for our energy than we should. Most of the time this is due to not having the time to research the market and choose a new supplier.

The good news is that Switchd* now makes this easier to do. Their automatic switching platform will allow you to feel safe in the knowledge that you are always paying the lowest amount possible, without causing you any hassle or wasting any of your time.
