Which Home Improvements Could Add the Most Value?

I’m a firm believer that home renovations aren’t just all about the money. No, the benefits to your lifestyle and the functionality of your home are things which are just as important to consider in my eyes. That being said, if you are going to be spending a lot of money on home improvements, then it would be nice to think that you might see some of that money back again at some point, either now or in the future.

So, what home renovations will give you the best return on your investment when you take into consideration the amount of money you will be spending versus the potential percentage increase in the value of your property?

The following infographic produced by HSBC is based on some recent research they carried out and it looks at 6 common – and not so common – potential areas of home improvement to try and answer that very question. From Loft Conversions to Smart Tech and Double Glazing to Solar Panel installation, the results are very interesting and some may even surprise you.

The amount of value that can be added to your property simply by installing some Smart Tech devices, for instance, is something that really took me by surprise and maybe you’ll be surprised by this too. The research suggests that an outlay of around £2100 on various smart tech items could increase the value of your home by an average of £3000 – £10000. So not only could you enjoy the immediate benefits and potential savings of having this kind of technology installed in your home, but you could also be making money by adding value to your home!

Of course, Smart Tech is just one area mentioned on the list of potential improvements and I’m sure you’ll agree that the infographic contains some useful information. For a more in-depth explanation of the findings you can check out this page on the HSBC website, as they have summarised their research and explained the infographic in more detail there.

If you have recently embarked on some of the home improvements mentioned in the infographic and have had some feedback on how much value it has added to your home, then perhaps you could also leave a comment below to share your experience with other readers.
